LIBERIA-BORN DARLINGTON NAGBE WINS MLS GOAL OF THE YEAR AWARD

Liberia-born United States of America international Darlington Nagbe has won the 2020 AT&T Goal of the Year, Major League Soccer (MLS) announced.

The 30-year-old won the award for his stunning volley in Columbus Crew’s 3-0 win over Chicago Fire on August 20, popping the ball up to himself before firing an unstoppable volley into the corner of the net from distance.

It is the second time that Nagbe has won the award, having also clinched the 2011 edition for another long range goal while still donning the colours of Portland Timbers.

Born in Monrovia, Nagbe left the country as a five-month-old during the First Liberian Civil War and travelled with his parents to France, Greece and Switzerland with father Joe having also forged a successful football career.

He moved to America with his parents as an 11-year-old and has played 25 times for the States, since making his debut five years ago.
